Our History
Nichols Taos Fine Art Gallery was established at the turn of the century in Taos, New Mexico. They carry on the tradition from an earlier century of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists who work in traditional subject of art. Nichols Taos Fine Art Gallery honors these artist and patrons by exhibiting that style on their walls, and now their "Internet Gallery".
The Story Of How It Became
I had been exhibiting in Taos for over 10 years but running a gallery off and on for almost 20 years. In a small gallery on Bent Street the beginnings of Nichols Fine Studio and Gallery where just a small twinkle. A good friend and fellow artist Frederick D. Aragon and I carried the space until his musical career moved him to another plane. That is when another part of the puzzle was to be placed.
Lawrence Egan who has had over 30 years in sales and had two other galleries of his own came into the space on Bent Street. He had seen the chemistry we had and felt that he would add to the mix quite well. And so it began over the years we grew caring a dozen or so artist in an old adobe home in a rich artistic community, it was something that just seemed to feel right at the time. We established ourselves with great artist's but felt there was something still on the horizon. The next chapter in our journey was to establish not only good artwork but artists to feel comfortable to be around and grow with the gallery.
It was a space that had appeared on the horizon but not yet reached until more pieces of the puzzle had to fall into place. That is when an opportunity showed itself. family and friends became apart of what we now call Nichols Taos Fine Art Gallery and the challenge to the next level was to be brought forth. Collectively we all added to the pie each bringing strengths to the table.
So in our infancy we began to combine the dozen or so artists with the previous artists in the space and change the view of our horizon. We felt that the opportunity to have the business of creativity and the creativity of business in a gallery atmosphere would set us apart. A place were selling artwork is not what the focus is on but more of an adoption agency. "We find parents to adopt our children" that just happens be to be what we do.
In some respect going back to the future realizing the ideals of the Taos Art Colony and breathing fresh air into it for the next century. We continue to build on our excellence of professional artists. A place where artist's and patron's may come together and honor those creative souls that one day may hang in the prestigious Museum around the world.
